Pinellas County detectives are investigating the death of a 48-year-old man after a confrontation with St. Petersburg police officers. The incident occurred on 7296 5th Street North during a welfare check.
The deceased has been identified as Brian Michael Pepal. According to initial reports, officers were dispatched to the residence to check on Pepal, who was reportedly experiencing a mental health crisis.
