Survey of adults 50+ in Canada by Zeroo Health: 92% felt healthy, yet 62% reported chronic conditions

Participants averaged 71 years old; physical activity showed more consistent links to wellbeing than age.

VANCOUVER, BC, Sept. 16, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — A Zeroo Health survey of 351 adults aged 50 and older living in Canada found that 92% rated their health as good or excellent, even though 62% reported at least one chronic health condition.

Participants ranged in age from 50 to 93, with an average age of about 71. Their responses highlight how feeling healthy and managing ongoing illness can coexist.

The voluntary online survey found that physical activity was more consistently associated with wellbeing than chronological age. Its findings describe the respondents and cannot represent all older adults in Canada.

Feeling healthy, but noticing changes

Positive health ratings did not mean participants were free of daily challenges. Approximately:

  • 62% reported at least one chronic health condition.
  • 77% said they had less energy than ten years earlier.
  • 25% rated their sleep as fair or poor.
  • 70% reported physical activity at least three days a week.

Together, these responses raise a question for conversations about aging: how well do medical conditions alone capture how people feel?

Activity showed the clearest pattern

Respondents who were active more often tended to report better overall health and more stable energy over the previous decade. They were also less likely to report multiple chronic conditions.

Smaller associations appeared for sleep, memory, concentration and recovery from stress. Age had weaker links to most responses, with modest associations involving chronic conditions and perceived skin aging.

The findings do not establish cause and effect. People who feel healthier may find it easier to stay active, while illness or mobility limitations could influence both activity and wellbeing.

About the survey

Nearly eight in ten respondents were women. All answers were self-reported and collected at one point in time, without medical testing. Activity was measured by days per week, without recording duration or intensity. Participants’ provinces and the response rate were unknown. Adults with greater frailty may have been less likely to participate.

The authors recommend following participants over time using standard health measures to better understand the relationship between activity and wellbeing.
