Seasoned Emergency Medicine Leader and ACEP Board Member Joins HaloMD to Champion Physician Advocacy, Patient Access and Fair and Reasonable Reimbursement

DALLAS, Sept. 1, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — HaloMD today announced the appointment of James L. Shoemaker Jr., MD, FACEP, as senior vice president of physician experience and advocacy. A board-certified emergency medicine physician, national reimbursement expert and longtime leader within the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), Dr. Shoemaker brings more than two decades of frontline clinical experience and advocacy to HaloMD’s leadership team.

In this new role, Dr. Shoemaker will partner with physicians, clinicians and provider organizations across the country to improve the care delivery system. He will focus on advocacy and advancing fair and reasonable reimbursement for practices navigating an increasingly complex healthcare landscape.

Dr. Shoemaker has been a leader in emergency medicine at the state and national levels for more than a decade. He currently serves on the ACEP Board of Directors and previously served as president of the Indiana ACEP chapter. In addition, Dr. Shoemaker is the co-innovator and co-course director of the ACEP/EMBC Independent Emergency Medicine Group Master Class, a curriculum developed with the Emergency Medicine Business Coalition (EMBC) to equip emergency physicians to establish, manage and strengthen independent practices. He is also a clinical faculty member at the Indiana University School of Medicine, where he has trained and mentored medical students.
