Tampa St. Petersburg, FL, August 24, 2026 —

Firefighters are reporting progress in containing a significant wildfire burning near Reno, Nevada. As of the latest reports, the blaze is 27% contained.

The containment efforts come as evacuation orders impacting thousands of residents have been reduced. However, authorities caution that high winds continue to present a substantial risk, complicating firefighting operations and potentially threatening further spread.

The wildfire has consumed approximately 15,000 acres of land. Tragically, the blaze has also resulted in the destruction of 32 homes. In addition to property damage, seven people have sustained injuries in connection with the fire.

The cause of the fire has been determined to be human-caused. However, the specific origin or activity that sparked the wildfire remains undetermined.
